#OffbeatCLTeats: Asian Flare

Hello Charlotte! We know our beloved Queen City has no shortage of options for every spectrum of foodie craving. And with every CLT Instagram influencer sharing and reviewing all of the new restaurant openings for media days every day, it can be easy to forget about the local spots. But even the little guys need love and sometimes that hole in the wall offers the best grubs! So enter: #offbeatCLTeats!

We will be sharing at least 2-3 different restaurants with each post and tell you why it is worth your time to check them out even if they’re low profile. Dot Dot Dot: A Culinary-Driven Bar Experience

We all know what a speakeasy is, but it’s only really until about a year ago that Charlotte finally got one that truly lives up to the concept.  The people behind Dot Dot Dot have succeeded in where most ventures have failed; commitment and restraint.

The experience begins immediately once you walk into what was a former storage unit located in the back lot of Park Rd Shopping Center. The red leather booths, tin coffer ceilings, and low light give the feeling of what one might imagine speakeasies were like during the prohibition era without being kitschy.  The shining star of the space has to be the marble bar that faces an the extensive collection of whiskey and other spirits.  If possible, try to grab a seat at the bar, it will give you a chance to chat up the bartenders and maybe even meet new friends in the process.

Mexican Thirst Quencher

With the mercury finally rising, we are undoubtedly in for another scorching summer. So what are you to reach for when trying to beat the summer heat?  May I suggest grabbing some fresh seasonal fruit and mixing yourself up some homemade agua fresca.   A staple in Mexican culture with a basic recipe of fruit, water, and sugar, agua frescas are slowly gaining popularity on this side of the border.  So when Kriska asked me to help come up with drinks for a fiesta themed engagement party, an agua fresca bar was a no-brainer. The best part is that they are fairly easy to make, and all you need is a trusty blender and a mesh strainer or cheese cloth for that refreshing taste!

Manny NOT Pacquiao

Hey everyone, my sister said I MUST tell you guys about myself so here it is. My real name is Emmanuel, but since pharmacy school I’ve gone by Manny. My new found friends/classmates thought that Emmanuel was too long and too old sounding for someone in his 20’s and since then it has stuck.

I found myself in Charlotte shortly after graduating pharmacy school and currently work as an overnight pharmacist in the retail world pulling 7 days in a row. The reward for working so hard is having 7 days off, which allows me to enjoy everything that the Queen City has to offer!

The easiest way to describe what I enjoy doing on my days off is eat, drink, sleep, repeat. I would consider myself a fairly adventurous eater and would try anything at least once, but Asian and Italian cuisine are by far my favorites. Although I do enjoy the occasional local brew from any one of the city’s breweries, I am a cocktail guy and I’m excited that Charlotte is finally getting on board with the craft cocktail scene.

When I’m not eating or drinking, you can usually find me on the couch with my 4 year old husky named Herschel binge-watching something on Netflix. I listen to pretty much any genre of music except for country. However, if you glance at my current Spotify playlist you can be easily convinced that I’m still stuck in high school listening to 00s emo/pop punk. I enjoy the outdoors as long as its not too hot or there’s not too much pollen in the air, which is why the fall is by far my favorite season.

As the saying goes… that’s me in a nutshell! Hopefully you’ll enjoy following Kriska and I along on our CLT adventures!
