TOP CLT BREWS FOR YOUR SUPER BOWL CREW 2020

Our CLT adventures have led us to some amazing people in the Queen City, and some of them are quite the beer lovers! So, to get you and your team ready for Super Bowl LIV…we’ve asked our friends to share their top brew picks. Whether you are #team49ers or #teamchiefs or #teamFOOD or #teamcommercials…trust us that you’ll have a great Sunday night if you snag any one of these highly recommended craft brewed beers!

If you end up getting a beer or two or more from any of these breweries, don’t forget to let us know! We would love to know what you think of ’em and how you end up spending your #SBLIV!

First up….

@RickSpeed is the original #CLTHophead and if you ever have any questions about beer or mail routes in CLT–he’s your guy! He’s also one of the most hilarious people we know and one day we will get a live camera on him to capture all of his stories! Here are his picks for the game:

1. Surf Wax IPA by Burial Beer | brewed with Mosaic, Citra, Centennial, Columbus, lots of barley and a touch of wheat 6.8% ABV

2. Dressed to Chill White Ale w/ Tangerine by Birdsong Brewing | Balanced and refreshing, with pleasant aromas of tangerine and complementary spice notes of cardamom, coriander, and clove 5% ABV

3. Greenway IPA by Triple C Brewing | Very sessionable IPA with aromas of tangerine zest, juicy fruit bubblegum and dank hop flavor. Soft on the palate with a touch of bitterness. Whirlpool and dry hop additions of Amarillo, Azacca, Idaho 7 and Citra. 5.2% ABV

4. RE-UP PILS Kellerpils by Resident Culture Brewing | Hopped with Summer and French Aramis. Slightly hazy, crisp and dry with a nice little hop bite 5% ABV

Kasee + Danny || These beer lovers are the absolute cutest lovers!!! They had tied the knot at one of the BEST breweries in Charlotte and then spent their honeymoon driving up and down the east coast, from one brewery stop to another–if that’s not true love BREWing between the two of them….

Love, love, love them so…and here are their picks:

Kasee’s list:
Wooden Robot | Sweet Tater Pie
Town Brewing | Lucid Dreamz
NoDa | Winter Bock
Legion | Guava Juicy Jay
Resident Culture | Illegal Smile

Danny’s list:
Divine Barrel | Spatial Awareness
Resident Culture | “whatever haze RC got in the cooler”***
Heist | Lovin the Dream
Salud / Newgrass | Brujita

***and that’s a direct quote!

Andrew and Ryane don’t only enjoy drinking craft beer–they brew ’em, too! Talk about being a true #craftcoupleclt! Andrew got us turned on to Divine Barrel–and we’re so glad, because we’ve been fans since the first can he shared with us. These are his picks for the game!

Amor Artis – Fort Milsner – Need to have a nice sessionable lager and this fits the bill perfectly. Clean, crisp, and perfect to go with any snacks throughout the game.
Divine Barrel – Cherry Connick Jr – You have two teams decked out in red playing, so why not drink to that with a deep red sour with smooth sweet cherry flavor.
Heist – Strange Clouds – Need a good Hazy to cut through the nachos and wings. This brings all the big juicy tropical notes while hopefully holding off any nasty clouds and weather during the game.

556 breweries and counting…Alexis is literally drinking her way around the world and boy are we living vicariously through her wanderlusting! Love her and her travel guides…these are her picks:

Resident Culture—Any IPA in the to-go fridge: They are frequently changing up their beers so it’s hard to say what they will have when you visit, but any IPA they have in the to-go fridge is bound to be delicious! My favorites right now are Sleeping on the Blacktop and Iconic Anonymity.

Salud | Funky Drummer: They have a few different fruit variations of this one, all of which are delightful! Their sours are smooth and easy drinking for your game watching. Plus, crowlers are only $10 on Sundays so snag one before the game!

Heist Brewing | It’s Always Stout Season: A new imperial stout with graham crackers, maple syrup, cinnamon, and cocoa. This heavy hitter will be a perfect dessert beer for the last quarter!

Catawba Brewing | White Zombie: A Belgian Witbier that is light and refreshing. Something that everyone can enjoy all game long!

We, of course, can’t have a beer list without having our friends from our fave South End bottle shop share their top picks!

Here are Ketan’s picks:
Wooden Robot Brewery | Max Lux Lager: Crisp, clean, and easy to drink. Low ABV so you can have more than a few and it will help carry you through the whole game!
NoDa Brewing | Radio Haze NEIPA: Great juicy and smooth IPA that does not finish with a bitter aftertaste. Unfiltered and easy to drink while clocking in at 6% ABV.
Burial Beer Co. | Skillet Donut Imperial Stout: Although it’s not local to Charlotte, this beer has to be on everyone’s list if you love a fantastic dark roasty stout with coffee. It can also help keep you awake through the 3rd & 4th quarter of the game.

Lenny Boy Brewing | Cranberry Tart Kettle Sour: Great berry taste and slight acidity from the cranberries followed by a little bit of lime on the backend. Reminds you of a nice cocktail at a fancy party, but replace fancy with Super Bowl.
Heist Brewery | Mo Than A Feeling NEIPA hopped w/ Mosaic & Motueka hops. Tons of tropical flavors and aromas such as pineapple, guava, & mango. Pillowy mouthfeel and super smooth.

And speaking of South End… our good friend, Mike is spreading all the South End love and we are here for it! He is always highlighting all the fun things going on in SE, and also doing his part for the community with VolunCHEERS–a community clean up in the South End area! If that’s not impressive…

Here’s a look into how Mike spends his Superbowl Sunday…

Super Bowl Sunday starts early for us, meaning, as soon as we wake up. With kickoff slated for 6:30pm, our recommendation is to start early with a Session Ale. Keeping it local, our pick would be the appropriately named “Pre Game” (Session Ale, 4.5%) from Unknown Brewing. With multiple Draft Kings lineups, prop bets, and box pools to complete, we don’t want to go too hard, too early, before the game even starts. As game time approaches and you need to find the perfect seat to sink into until halftime, we’d recommend grabbing “Free Skate” (Hazy/New England IPA, 7%) from Resident Culture. Even if the game stinks, you know you’ll still have some great beer to enjoy. As the game winds down and your team is in the lead, break out the “Baby Maker” (Double IPA, 8.5%) from Triple C because it’s time to celebrate!!! By having a lot of Eagles fan friends with kids born in November of 2018, named Carson, Nick, & Doug (and a dog named Foles)…We definitely think there’s some merit to the name of this delicious brew. Cheers friends!

Were any of these breweries and beers your go-to’s? Don’t forget to let us know how your Superbowl Sunday goes! Give these hopheads a follow and level-up your beer game!!!
