We seriously had a difficult time trying to put together our blog post about New York City–a trip we took over July 4th. With over 1,400+ photos of our eats, drinks, and city skyline streets and over 126,432 steps logged per Kriska’s FitBit totaling about 53 miles all over Manhattan and Dumbo, we definitely packed a lot into our 5-day stay in the city that never sleeps. Do we write about the food, the drinks, or the sights…what should we do?! Another problem we ran into was that every time we tried to curate our photos, we just got hungrier and hungrier and felt like we needed another NYC trip STAT! Well, this made us think of how can we get our NYC fix without jet-setting off to LGA or JFK. We feel like CLT is torn between the folks who think that the city is on its way to becoming a mini-NYC and those that say it’s not even close–but you know what, we found a few spots around our city that lets you take a bite of the ‘Big Apple!’
So, just in time for #NationalNewYorkDay on Sept. 20, here are our NYC eats in the QC!
A classic lox and bagels from Russ and Daughters is really, really good eats–nosh on some from Poppy’s Bagels and More on Providence Rd. We got ours on an everything bagel and it was all we ever wanted!
There are many great spots in Chinatown for very authentic dim sum and our favorite is Nom Wah Tea Parlor. Unfortunately, CLT doesn’t have as many options to choose from, but the Dim Sum Chinese Restaurant on Central Avenue will surely hit the spot! Pro tip: Go on a Sunday for a fuller experience with the push carts and consume all the dim sum your belly can handle! (Bonus spot: Chuan Wang Fu on Park Rd has a really awesome beef in hot chili oil and xiao long bao. If you’ve been looking to try soup dumplings, you have to check them out.)
I mean, the BEST donuts. Just the BEST donuts we’ve ever had was at the Doughnut Plant, and we were almost so sad that they only have locations in NYC until we finally got some of Your Mom’s Donuts. The yeast dough is LIFE! With donut game this strong, Your Mom’s Donuts are no joke!
And how can we forget, NYC’s instagrammable desserts?! Just search for #nycdessert and it’s a feast for your eyes. Let’s not forget that the camera eats first. Eggloo was just one of the many desserts we consumed in NYC–you’ve got to try all the fun options in Koreatown and Chinatown. As for CLT, we’ve got our very own spot: Ninety’s Sandwich & Ice Cream at the Shoppes at University Place on JM Keynes Dr. From donut ice cream sandwiches, to macaron ice cream sandwiches and the several different combinations of their cereal milkshakes, the hardest part will be trying to get that perfect shot before taking a bite or drink of your treat!
So that’s our roundup of NYC eats in the Queen City. Let us know what you think and if you have other spots, we should know about. We sure would love to keep feeding our NYC cravings until our next trip. For a list of other spots we checked out during our trip, here is a map!
